The Augusta County Department of Finance received a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for the Fiscal Year 2021 Annual Financial Report. This year is the 24th year that the county d’Augusta receives the award.

The Augusta County Financial Report demonstrates “a constructive ‘full disclosure spirit’ to clearly communicate its financial history and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report, according to a GFOA press release.

“I’m proud of the high bar that finance staff consistently set to create a report that is easily understood by all citizens,” said Misty Cook, Chief Financial Officer. “The award recognizes the county’s efforts to ensure transparency in our financial and internal control processes.”

County staff develop a user-friendly document, along with a cover letter that summarizes the highlights of the report. Additionally, a management discussion and analysis section outlines county fund balances and expenditures in a narrative format.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the field of government accounting and financial reporting, and earning it represents a significant achievement by a government and its leadership, according to the press release.

Augusta County has received 24 Financial Reporting Excellence Awards from the GFOA over the years.
