Finance Minister seeks support from international development partners for flood victims

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has urged international development partners to provide extensive support and assistance to those recently affected by the floods in Pakistan.

He spoke with the World Food Programme’s Special Adviser for Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition, Princess of Jordan Sarah Zeid Raád in Islamabad on Thursday.

The Minister of Finance welcomed the Princess of Jordan and thanked the World Food Program for its continued support to Pakistan in the form of humanitarian aid.

He highlighted the reform initiatives introduced by the government for the socio-economic improvement of the people, including the financial assistance provided to women and flood-affected people through the Benazir income support scheme.

The minister also briefed the visiting dignitary on the government’s support for women’s development, maternal and child health care, nutrition facilities and children’s education.

Speaking on the occasion, Princess Sarah Zeid highlighted WFP’s interventions in various sectors in Pakistan and appreciated Pakistan’s cooperation at federal and provincial levels.

She expressed a desire to work with the Pakistani government in humanitarian relief, food and nutrition needs, poverty alleviation and women’s development.
